The Company

This company is awesome! They're new, energetic, and totally killing it. They're one of the fastest growing businesses in Australia, taking on bigger projects and doing more and more cool stuff. They are a D&C contractor and generally love to build things, especially structures made of steel.

People love working there and can't say enough good things about it. It's a super chill environment where everyone feels comfortable, no matter their background. They only care about how well you do, not where you come from. Plus, you're surrounded by a bunch of motivated entrepreneurs which makes work everyday fun.

About the Role:

This is a broad, commercially focused Finance Associate role supporting the financial operations of a civil construction business in Victoria. Working closely with the Finance Manager and project teams, you'll be instrumental in keeping the numbers accurate, the reporting timely, and the business informed to make sound commercial decisions across its project portfolio.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Day-to-day bank reconciliation.
  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly financial statements, management reports, and project-level profit and loss reporting
  • Supporting project cost control by tracking budgets, commitments, and forecasts against actual expenditure across multiple concurrent civil projects
  • Processing accounts payable and receivable, including subcontractor progress claims, supplier invoices, and client invoicing in line with contract terms
  • Assisting with the preparation and lodgement of BAS, payroll tax, and other statutory obligations

  • Supporting the monthly payroll process in collaboration with HR, including reviewing timesheets and ensuring correct EBA-based pay classifications
  • Assisting with cash flow monitoring and reporting, flagging variances or risks to the Finance Manager
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting document management for audits and compliance reviews
  • Liaising with project managers and site supervisors to gather cost data and provide financial context in plain language
  • Contributing to process improvement initiatives and supporting the implementation or optimisation of finance systems

How You’ll Connect to the Role:

You're a detail-oriented finance professional who is comfortable working in a project-based, fast-moving environment. You understand that in construction, the numbers on a page have a direct connection to what's happening in the ground, and you take that seriously.

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce; CA/CPA progress highly regarded
  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience in a finance or accounting role, ideally within construction, infrastructure, engineering, or a related project-based industry
  • Solid understanding of project cost accounting, WIP (work-in-progress) reporting, and contract-based revenue recognition
  • Proficiency in accounting software — experience with Jobpac, Cheops, Procore, or similar construction ERP systems is a strong advantage; Xero or MYOB experience also valued
  • Strong Excel skills, including the ability to build and maintain financial models and reporting templates
  • Sound understanding of GST, BAS preparation, and general compliance obligations for the construction sector
  • Ability to read and interpret subcontract agreements and understand progress claim and retention processes
  • High attention to detail with strong reconciliation and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills — you can translate financial data into plain language for non-finance stakeholders on site and in the office
  • A proactive, self-sufficient work style with the ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple projects
